Yes we are still celebrating our 50th!
Rollin’ on the River Steamroller Printmaking Festival
A free community celebration that is certain to please!
Join us Sunday, October 5, from 12 to 4pm, on Garrison’s Landing, RAIN or SHINE
Everyone is invited--tots to seniors, beginners to experienced artists--all will have the opportunity to create a print block to be pressed by the massive steamroller donated by Polhemus Construction in Garrison.
We'll enjoy an afternoon of fun down by the riverside, as teaching artists offer visitors the opportunity to make their own block print, with all materials provided by the Art Center free of charge. “I know my 4-year old grandson is super excited to see the steamroller in action,” said Carinda Swann, Director of the Art Center, “but no more excited than all the participating grown-ups I’ve talked to, including me!”
With over 130 participating local students, art classes will be bringing their work to be printed as giant collaborative prints, along with a number of artists from the area and beyond. Whether you’re printing or not, join us on the landing as we cheer on kids, grown-ups, student artists and professional artists and watch as each of the colossal prints--4 x 8 foot--is unveiled to the crowd.
Once prints are rolled, as many as possible will be showcased in a pop-up exhibition in our Riverside Galleries immediatley following, about 4 to 6pm. So be sure to stay for the exhibition and reception celebrating the artists, the community, and 50 years of making art down by the riverside at Garrison Art Center.
The Art Center is so grateful to Polhemus Construction for their donation of steamroller and driver, to N. Dain’s Sons Co. in Peekskill for the lumber and to Monadnock Paper Mills for the giant rolls of paper. The generosity of these businesses helped us make this community event possible free of charge for everyone.
And thanks to artist Jeff White for making the beautiful woodcut featured on our poster below!
